Situated on the Pacific Coast, Oregon is a state between Washington and California in the north and south, respectively. It is home to the most luscious and breathtaking mountain peaks, rivers, and rainforests, making it an excellent habitat for native plants. Some of the most common plant life which is native to the state of Oregon is as follows:
• Oregon Maple – also known as Bigleaf Maple, this tree can grow up to 35 meters tall, and has the largest leaves among all types of maple trees. The leaves can spread up to 30 centimeters across, with 60 centimeters being the widest. The wood from the Oregon Maple is used for furniture, salad bowls, and piano frames.
• Oregon White Oak – also known as the Garry Oak, it grows in three different varieties. It can grow as a shrub of up to 5 meters in height, with the surface of the leaves being velvety or not velvety underneath. It can also grow as a tree of up to 20 meters in height, and can reach a maximum of 30 meters. Another characteristic of the Oregon White Oak is that it can withstand drought, with catkins flowers and acorns.
• Oregon-grape – although it is not related to the real fruit, the shrub got its name because of the purple berry clusters that it bears, and the dusty look which is similar to real grapes. The shrub can grow from 1 to 5 meters high, and can withstand drought or hot summer seasons. Its fruits are sources of food for birds, and the shrubs can survive in almost any type of soil.
• Shore Pine – also known as Lodgepole Pine, it is an evergreen tree which is dominant in the western parts of North America. With three different species, the Shore Pine can grow from 1 to 3 meters as a shrub, and 40 to 50 meters as a tree.
